265. O God, Who dost deign
partial indulgence… Grant 15
434. A Prayer – Most holy Mary, Our Lady of Intercession

NOTE:
Every prayer may be eligible for a partial indulgence, if applied correctly, under Grant 15.
Some spelling errors may be present.
Abbreviations that are found at the end of an indulgence prayer/practice (like S. P. Ap., and S. C. Ind.,) are, in essence, a specific ecclesiastical approval for a particular indulgence.
Traditional indulgences are ordered by their last date of approval.
The full written outline of the requirements for a partial or plenary indulgence, found at the end of an indulgence prayer/practice, may be omitted if not all of the information is unique or notable. (You will see three dots when there is a break in text …)
CHAPTER I. “THE TRIUNE GOD” - III. Acts of Adoration and Thanksgiving
46. I adore Thee O God, I count myself as nothing before Thy divine Majesty. Thou alone art Being, Life, Truth, Beauty and Goodness. I glorify Thee, I praise Thee, I give Thee thanks and I love Thee, all helpless and unworthy as I am, in union with Thy dear Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour and our Brother, in the merciful kindness of His Heart and through His infinite merits. I desire to serve Thee, to please Thee, to obey Thee and to love Thee always, in union with Mary immaculate, Mother of God and our Mother, loving also and serving my neighbor for the love of Thee.
Wherefore give me Thy Holy Spirit, to enlighten me, to correct me and to guide me in the way of Thy commandments and in all perfection, the while I look for the happiness of heaven, where we shall glorify Thee for ever and ever. Amen. An indulgence of 500 days once a day (Pius X, Rescript in his own hand, Feb. 28, 1906, exhib. April 18, 1906; S. P. Ap., April 18, 1933).
Although there are a couple ‘Thanksgiving’ Grants (Grant 8 for Act of thanksgiving after Communion and Grant 26 Prayers of Supplication and Acts of Thanksgiving) I’m not sure if this prayer would fall into either of these grants or into which of them it would fall into if it did. So I will place this prayer safely under Grant 15.
The specific reference in the 'Manuel of Indulgences' is as follows: A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who for their personal edification devoutly spend time in mental prayer.
CHAPTER III. ‘GOD THE SON’ – Art. VII. “THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS” – VIII. Prayers
265. O God, Who dost deign mercifully to bestow upon us infinite treasures of love in the Heart of Thy Son, which was wounded for our sins; grant, we beseech Thee, that we who pay Him the devout homage of our piety, may in like manner show unto Thee our due of worthy satisfaction. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen (Roman Missal). An indulgence of 5 years. A plenary indulgence on the usual conditions for the daily recitation of this prayer through an entire month (S. P. Ap., Apr. 18, 1936)
Every prayer may be eligible for a partial indulgence, under Grant 15. The specific reference in the 'Manuel of Indulgences' is as follows: A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who for their personal edification devoutly spend time in mental prayer.
CHAPTER V. “THE MOST BLESSED VIRGIN MARY” – Art. VII. “THE BLESSED VIRGIN UNDER DIVERS TITLES” – XVIII. OUR LADY OF INTERCESSION
434. A Prayer – Most holy Mary, Our Lady of Intercession, whose maternal tenderness gathers in one embrace all the souls redeemed by the Precious Blood of thy Son Jesus, we come before thy royal throne with sadness in our hearts as we remember those who have gone before us, but also with unlimited confidence in thine intercession. Death, which burst asunder the bonds of earth, has not destroyed the affection which binds us to those who lived in the same faith as we do. O Mary, countless souls await with unutterable anxiety the assistance of our prayers, and the merits of our good works in that place of expiation. Urged by the charity of Jesus Christ, we raise our countenance and heart in supplication to thee, the compassionate Mother of all believers, in favor of those suffering souls. Make our prayers of good effect, O Mary; obtain for them the power to move the Heart of Jesus our Redeemer through thy motherly intercession. Let thine incomparable holiness supply the defects of our misery, thy love make good our languid affection, thy power strengthen our weakness. Grant, O Queen of heaven, that the ardent desire of the souls of the departed to be admitted to the Beatific Vision may soon be satisfied. We pray to thee, O Mother, especially for the souls of our relations, of priests, of those who were zealous in honoring thee, of those who did good to the souls of others, of those who wept with them and for them and, finally, for the souls of those who are forgotten. Grant that one day, when we are all reunited in heaven, we may be able to rejoice in the possession of God, in the happiness of thy dear presence, in the fellowship of all the Saints, thanking thee forever for all the blessings thou hast obtained for us, O Mother, who art our unfailing comfort. Amen.
Hail Mary three times, and once Eternal rest grant unto them, etc.
An indulgence of 500 days. A plenary indulgence on the usual conditions once a month for the daily recitation of this prayer (S. P. Ap., Dec. 2, 1926 and Apr. 18, 1935)
This prayer is granted a partial indulgence under Grant 17, because it has been “approved” at least once. The specific reference in the 'Manuel of Indulgences' is as follows: A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who devoutly address the Blessed Virgin Mary with some approved prayer
P.S. Prayers may be said on the memorial of any saint listed in the calendar recite, according to Grant 21. This would offer the opportunity for a partial indulgence. Prayers for this Grant must be “approved by legitimate authority.” Therefore, this prayer would be a valid option in honor of the Marian feast: the Feast Day of OUR LADY OF INTERCESSION
This concluded the Traditional Indulgences
Every prayer/practice that we evaluated today is taken from the last approved publication of the Raccolta. The Raccolta was once the official book/document/list of approved Indulgences. In its last publication there were 780+ individualized prayers/practices that were approved for gaining indulgences.
In 1967 indulgence practices were revised so that indulgences are now, today, granted more in the style of “category” of prayers/practices rather than individually. This leaves me with the question: how do the indulgenced prayers/practices from the Raccolta (traditional indulgence) line up with the indulgences of today? That question is what this “study” seeks to answer.
